Afghan envoy ‘forced’ to share picture of daughter | The Express Tribune


The Afghan ambassador to Pakistan Najibullah Alikhil decried being “forced” to share a picture of his daughter late Saturday night after another woman’s picture was incorrectly posted to social media after the news of her abduction broke.

In a tweet, the ambassador apologised for sharing his daughter’s picture but added that he felt compelled share his daughter, Silsila Alikhil’s, picture here because someone else’s picture was posted incorrectly on social media, adding that he didn’t even know her at all.

The ambassador further tweeted that “yesterday my daughter was kidnapped from Islamabad and beaten heavily, but by Allah blessing escaped. She feels better now.”

The ambassador added that the “inhuman attack” was being following by the concerned authorities of both countries.

“I express my profound gratitude for the messages of sympathy”.

The ambassador’s daughter was “abducted and “manhandled” by unidentified assailants in Islamabad, the Foreign Office said in a statement on Saturday.

The Afghan foreign ministry, while confirming the incident, claimed that she was “abducted for several hours and severely tortured”.

According to the FO, a thorough investigation was launched by Islamabad police as soon as the incident surfaced on Friday.

Prime Minister Imran Khan had directed Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed to utilise all resources to apprehend the people involved in kidnapping the Afghan envoy’s daughter.
