The Federal Tax Ombudsman (FTO) attaches immense importance to the business community particularly the tax payers hence no injustice will be tolerated at any cost against any tax payer in Pakistan, said Federal Tax Ombudsman, Dr Asif Mahmood Jah.
Speaking to a delegation of businessmen on Thursday, he said that his office was committed by law to address the genuine grievances faced arising from maladministration by functionaries of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), inland revenue services or customs.
He announced that advisers and consultants in all regional offices of FTO in Pakistan have been directed to accelerate the lawful disposal of pending complaints on a priority basis.
He also said that the pending cases would be decided on merit and within a stipulated timeframe.
“The private sector plays a significant role in economic development of a country and the state is bound to provide business friendly environment to it by fully ensuring ease of doing business,” he said.
Taxpayers also contribute immensely to the national development by paying taxes, he said.
FBR was apex tax body in Pakistan which collected taxes and revenue from taxpayers in accordance with the law.
He urged the business community to file only genuine complaints and support them with documented evidence for seeking justice or remedy of grievances.
Earlier, he called upon SAARC Chamber of Commerce and Industry President Iftikhar Ali Malik and exchanged views for further improvement in FTO offices with regard to overcoming tax payers’ complaints.
Appreciating the services being offered by Jah, Malik announced to extend whole hearted support of the business community to the FTO.
