Minister lays stress on regional integration | The Express Tribune


ISLAMABAD:

Regional integration is fundamental for enhancing socioeconomic relations with neighbouring countries and it can lead to substantial economic gains with Central Asia, Russia and China, said Federal Minister of Economic Affairs Omar Ayub Khan.

Chairing a high-level meeting on Thursday to discuss the agenda of the upcoming meeting of Pakistan-Russia Inter-Government Commission (IGC), the minister emphasised on deepening bilateral relations with Russia.

“Both countries possess modest potential for mutual cooperation in various fields,” he said.

He stated that private sector could play a significant role in enhancing bilateral relations, especially trade and investment ties.

He voiced hope of constructive and positive dialogue between to two sides in the upcoming IGC meeting on trade, economic, scientific and technical cooperation.

The minister also directed the concerned participants to identify the priorities and prepare comprehensive proposals including scope, action plan, output and outcomes along with the timelines.

On the occasion, the participants deliberated on various proposals for cooperation with Russia in areas of trade, customs and energy.
