Markazi Nanbai Association of Pakistan President Muhammad Shafiq Qureshi has said that all items used in tandoors, including gas, LPG cylinders, coal and wood have become 100 per cent more expensive in the city.
He expressed these views while addressing an emergency meeting, which was also attended by the association’s General Secretary Khursheed Qureshi, Vice President Sardar Mushtaq, Imran Qureshi, Gul Dali Khan, Mazhar Qureshi, Amin Qureshi and others.
He demanded that the government either allow them to fix a new rate of Rs20 for naan and Rs15 for roti immediately, or reduce the prices of all items used in tandoors.
The president lamented the increase in prices of the main ingredient, which have gone up from Rs4,800 to Rs6,000 for fine flour and from Rs4,000 to Rs4,400 for plain flour.
Hence, he said, the rates of naan and roti need to be raised as well. He claimed that if the government does not set the rate officially, the businesses of naan-bais will be ruined.
“With the rates of gas, cylinder, wood, flour, meal and fine flour increasing day by day, how can we keep selling naan and roti at the same prices?” questioned Shafiq.
