Neelum-Jhelum line phase-II completed | The Express Tribune

National Transmission and Despatch Company (NTDC) has successfully completed the second phase (133-kilometre long) of 500-kilovolt Neelum-Jhelum double-circuit transmission line.

The power generated through the Neelum-Jhelum hydropower project (969 megawatts) will now be transmitted directly to the 500kV Nokhar (New Ghakkar) grid station, which is closer to the load centres, according to a statement issued on Friday.

The first phase comprised a 152km-long line emanating from the Neelum-Jhelum power house to Domeli (near Rawat), which was completed in 2018, an NTDC spokesman underlined.

NTDC has also connected 720-megawatt Karot hydropower project through looping with the Neelum-Jhelum project to the Nokhar transmission line, he added.

“At present, the testing of Karot hydropower project is underway and after its successful commissioning, 720MW of cheap energy will be added to the national grid soon,” he revealed.

As a result, issues pertaining to load management in Gujranwala, Sialkot and the surrounding districts would be resolved, he said.

“The addition of hydel power will play a key role in improving the system reliability and voltage profile at load centres,” the spokesman said.
