‘Policeman falls victim to target killing’ | The Express Tribune

Investigation agencies have retrieved CCTV footage of the firing incident that resulted in a police constable’s killing and declared it a case of target killing.

A case against unidentified assailants, who used 44 bore guns and pistols in the attack, was registered for murder and attempted murder under the Anti-Terrorism Act.

Funeral prayers for the martyred police constable were offered at Police Line Rawalpindi, and the burial took place in his native area. A contingent of police presented an honorary salute when the body of the deceased Khurram Shehzad arrived at the funeral prayer site the body of the martyred constable Khurram Shehzad.

Rawalpindi Regional Police Officer (RPO) Ashfaq Ahmad Khan, Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Ali, Rawalpindi City Police Officer (CPO) Sajid Kayani, former Rawalpindi CPO Athar Ismail, military and civil officers and civil society elders attended the funeral prayers.

After the prayers, the body of Shehzad was carried to his native village Saroba in the Chontra Police Station limits, where the martyr was buried with official honours.

It was also learned that Shehzad, who had been briefing his subordinates about their duty when he was killed by unknown assailants on a motorcycle, had been married recently. Sub-Inspector Manzoor Shehzad and Constable Muhammad Omar Haroon were injured in the firing.

The CCTV footage seized by police shows a rider on a motorcycle passing through the eventual crime scene just before the incident.

The man is also being investigated on the suspicion of providing reconnaissance or cover for the incident.

Talking to reporters on the occasion of funeral prayers, RPO Rawalpindi Ashfaq Ahmad Khan said that the eternal sacrifices of martyrs are a source of honour and respect for the department.

He further said that Punjab Forensic Science Agency has obtained evidence from the spot, and that the investigation will be conducted by a joint investigation team.
