Vintage car show makes a splash | The Express Tribune

Vintage car enthusiasts from all over the country attended an exhibit entitled ‘Heritage on Wheels’ organised by the Vintage and Classic Cars Club Pakistan (VCCCP) in collaboration with a private hotel in Islamabad on Tuesday.

The 1922 French-manufactured Amilcar was the oldest car in the show, which featured 35 vintage cars from Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad. Other classics included the UK-built 1954 Austin Healey, 1955 TR, and USA made 1955 Ford Thunderbird.

Some participants drove over from Karachi as part of the 11th VCCCP Karachi to Khyber Classic Car Rally 2021.

While owning and maintaining classic cars is considered an expensive taste, patrons of the hobby regard the investment as a gratifying one.

Speaking on the occasion, VCCCP Chairman Mohsin Ikram said that the purpose of the event was to showcase beautiful vehicles from an earlier era to the public, and promote a soft image of Pakistan.

He appreciated the vintage car owners for their passion for maintaining these vehicles as cultural artefacts, and celebrated the fact that this year’s show included a mother who drove all the way from Karachi with her family.

Visitors admired the colourful and unique assemblage of cars as they wandered from one model to another, taking pictures with their favourites.

Aziz Bolani, the organiser of the exhibition, said that vintage cars hold great importance akin to historical sites and buildings.

He added that unlike conventional cars, vintage ones seldom change hands as their owners are often emotionally attached to them, and that recollections associated with these cars are a wonderful trip down the memory lane.
