Vote count underway in Punjab’s Khanewal by-poll | The Express Tribune

Vote counting is underway in Punjab’s Khanewal (PP-206) constituency by-election with a nail-biting contest is expected between the PML-N and the ruling PTI.

The polling in the constituency started at 8:00am and continued until 5:00pm without any interruption.

According to Express News, the seat fell vacant following the death of PML-N’s MPA Nishat Ahmed Daha.

The PML-N has fielded Rana Saleem while the widow of late PML-N lawmaker Noorin Nishat Daha was nominated by PTI to contest the by-poll.

As per the unconfirmed and unofficial results of 64 polling stations out of 185, PML-N’s Rana Saleem is leading the by-election with 14,663 votes and PTI’s candidate is second with 10,334 votes.

Other parties including the PPP and the TLP have also fielded their candidates in the by-election.

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) had set up 185 polling stations where 13 candidates were competing.

The police and Rangers were also deployed in the constituency to maintain law and order during the polling.
